When is it time for hospice care?

One or more of the following changes may indicate the need for hospice care:

  • Decline in health over the last six months, even with aggressive medical treatments
  • Frequent hospitalizations or emergency room visits
  • Frequent or reoccurring infections
  • Uncontrolled pain, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting
  • Decrease in appetite or unintentional weight loss
  • Increased weakness, sleeping, or confusion
  • Decline in ability to perform daily personal tasks such as eating, bathing, dressing, or using the bathroom

It is never too early to contact Hospice of Dubuque to explore how hospice care can benefit you and your loved ones.

Payment for hospice care

Hospice of Dubuque is a nonprofit community organization that provides care to patients and families, regardless of financial resources or insurance reimbursement. Hospice of Dubuque receives payment from Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances. Because of generous donor support, no one is turned away.
